An Excerpt from “The Wisdom of Epinoia”
The following is a brief excerpt from my book, The Wisdom of Epinoia. In this section, we explore the fundamental questions of existence and the metaphorical nature of our lives in these bodies.
I asked Epinoia, “Why are we born into bodies, then? Didn’t God create us as bodies?”
That’s not a question, as it turns out. Neither is wondering why we think we are people in bodies (and I thought I was clever to come up with that). These are statements. Epinoia explained, “When we ask, ‘Why am I here?’ or ‘Why do we think we’re here?’, we are saying we are someplace else, or we are in a place that isn’t where our spirit belongs, or we are in a body, in a situation, doing stuff — working, having babies, having fights, talking to people, making love, eating, making art, engaging in science, and on and on. All that meaningless doing stuff. We are also saying we are a separate being, in a body, on a planet, living a life. So many extensions of God have this question that it needs to be answered. To that, I offer the following — but keep in mind, it’s all metaphorical. None of this is in fact ‘true.’ Only God is true. The rest of us are just making all this stuff up.”
This is what she told me:
“In the perfect whiteness, there is awareness, which is an extension of the One who has thought everything into existence. Doing what It does, creating like Itself, It extends Love into Being where there was nothing before. From the white void springs sentience, as a reflection of the Perfection that created it.
“Imagined into being, the One reflected back on Itself and was aware that It had been thought and reflected the thought with original Love that was everything. The One who had Created and the one who had been created were of the same mind, the same will, and like each other in every respect. Both creative, the Creator and created were in the same mind, in every way identical, save for one: that One created the other like Itself without separation, sharing one will in every way.
“Then in an instant, a decision was made to break wills with the Creative, and in that moment, with the seriousness of a Southern minister, its reflection reached for a desire to be separate, to have its own will, as distinguished from that of the Creative. A joke without a punch line, a suicide of wills that created dual and duel in a single thought.
“Then the white void from which awareness dawned was shattered into tiny bits that streamed out across space and made-up time. Darkness suddenly surrounded the tiny remnants, like distant stars, reminders that what once was One is now many — too many to be counted, or even accounted for. The created scattered into cold darkness, as vast as the Love was deep and warm. Infinitesimal streams of awareness splattered throughout space and came to hide in the corners of the Creative mind as tiny extensions of light, chased by the delusion of guilt. At that moment, a giant metaphorical broken dryer started to vibrate, creating noise to cover up the trail, obscuring the path back to the Source by fabricating the illusion of time and space.
“In that unholy instant, a decision for suicide was made that would birth the idea of time and space, scattering the whiteness into a swath of beige, subject to the whims of nature, casting itself out naked to fend for itself. It is a decision that must be made time and time again to maintain the fantasy, a struggle to try to balance the Creative with personal identity, a desire to walk back into the Creative and be recognized as a separate creative entity. This is a dream of youthful folly — a dream that is perpetuated on countless planets, in countless galaxies, by countless sentient beings, all with the desire to be recognized by the Creative as whom they see themselves to be, and pointing to all the others as different and somehow less worthy of God’s attention and recognition.
“Like screaming children demanding that the Creative be the way they deem It should be, it is a tantrum of spiritual immaturity, operating under the misguided impression that if there are enough like minds and every disparate mind is winnowed out, like weeds that can be pulled until the lawn of creativity looks like one vast sea of uniformity, then the Creative will stand up and notice and give recognition where it is long overdue.
“See me, yet don’t see me; I’m fearless, yet fearful; I seek, but do not find. And the metaphorical dryer goes on getting louder and looks for signs that point away from the truth, rather than towards it. Hiding out and longing to be found, and all the while, God does what God has always done: God creates like unto Itself in Its own image. Love creates only Love, and that which is not Love makes up only myths.
“You, my dear, have unplugged the giant broken dryer to reclaim the precious silence and are just now learning who you are in reality. You have come to a state of mind in which you are no longer screaming, and you are working through your guilt. You have come to God’s Loving Peace, and because you are taking responsibility for all you have encountered in your dreams, you are ready to have God take the final step towards you.”
Deepen Your Journey
If this excerpt resonated with you, I invite you to explore the full journey in my book, The Wisdom of Epinoia, available now on Amazon.
I would truly appreciate your support in purchasing a copy. Beyond these philosophical questions, the book dives deep into the hardest work we do as humans: forgiveness. In its pages, I use examples of truly hellacious events and extreme circumstances to show how we can find the strength to forgive nearly anything.
If you or someone you know is struggling to find peace with a difficult past, this book may be the right guide for that journey.
